How to play
The idea here is the same as the cryptic clue that inspired it. Each puzzle is a short clue shown as a row of word tiles. One part is the definition — a plain synonym of the answer — and the rest is wordplay. You reduce the wordplay to the answer by applying transforms: rearrange letters for an anagram, read tiles backwards for a reversal, pull out a hidden run of letters, drop a letter, join fragments, and more.
The controls are built for phones first. Tap the tiles for the next step and choose the correct result from the options shown; a wrong choice shakes but never ends the puzzle. A three-tier hint — highlight the definition, name the next transform, or reveal a step — is there whenever you are stuck, so you are never truly blocked.
